Chance had it that I was in Wolfgang Weingart's last class at the (former) Basel School of Design before he retired. His introduction to basic typography was, as many others would testify, an eye-opener. Not literally though, since that year I spent all Thursday squinting to learn about ragged text, hierarchy, character spacing and such matters. Tools of choice: Scissors and adhesive tape. Never since was cutting and pasting so analogue.
